Karangahake Gorge

Department of Conservation has put together a great leaflet about walks in the Karangaheka Gorge, so I don’t think there is need for any further directions, let’s just enjoy the scenery. A nice place to stop on the way to Mt Maunganui/Tauranga – the views are spectacular. The windows walk was our favourite, but it definitely pays to pack a torch. When? Matakana market is open every Saturday from 8am to 1pm Where? Located approximately 35 mins drive from Auckland, it is scattered over Matakana Square at 2 Matakana Valley Road.
